  1. I was at a Krashen lecture that he gave in Japan at the end of last year and he willingly admitted that he wasn’t the first to discuss the ideas that he presented as the “Input Hypothesis”, but that he was the first to append a catchy name to them.

    He quipped that aspiring scholars needn’t actually come up with a new idea, just take an idea and package it in a way that’ll be catchy in order to achieve scholarly fame.

    My thinking that Krashen didn’t come up with it alone was from the single source of a 9th grader who happened (such are the inclinations of a few of our students) to read in her high school textbook about Belasco and made the connections with what I was saying in class about how we learn languages.

    I have always thought of Krashen as the truest of gentlemen.
