Hi Ben,
I just got back from our meeting and it was wonderful getting to know everyone. We (Catharina, Carly, Greg, Greg’s friend Rachel, and I) met in this great beer garden in Queens (for those of you not familiar with NY, it’s one of the five boroughs) which was perfect for shooting the breeze. Unfortunately, Bradley and Joe couldn’t make it but I’m sure there will be a next time. It was really funny to realize that some of us actually knew each other. Catharina and I had met at a conference in Saratoga in 2012, and Carly and Greg attended the same Blaine Ray workshop last summer. Small world.
Essentially, we just wanted to have a chance to put faces to the names on the blog and to talk shop without having to explain what we were talking about ;-). Our discussion focused mainly on how to get through the end of the year with our more difficult classes. We tossed around some ideas and came back to the tried and true – dictée, more quick quizzes, translating stories from TL into English, OWI, ….. and the realization that there is always next year to start fresh again.
I came away so energized and happy to have met all these wonderful and passionate people and I am excited for our next get-together.
