  1. I don’t have to teach from a textbook, but I do have to give a “bell ringer” assignment which I think of as my way to prep kids who move from my CI middle school classroom to a traditional HS class. The bell ringer is often to copy four or five words into a “picture dictionary” in the back of their notebooks with a picture that shows the meaning. That way I get the vocab lists out of the way and students can use those lists in the spring for the children’s book project. Or sometimes it’s a vocab matching list with the French on one side and the English on the other but out of order and they have to match up the equivalents. The matching is easy to go over, it only takes about 2 minutes and I can point out little grammatical things like “look, le la and les all mean “the” in French” or “Notice how all those commands end in “ez”? That’s because I am telling all of you to do something.” Then the rest of my class is NTCI with some more vocab building stuff sometimes as brain breaks.
