The old days of “challenging” language students is over. Our field is challenging enough for them and for us.
Those days were part of something in language education that didn’t work, and so good riddance. The research tells us that if it isn’t effortless for them, then it doesn’t align with the research about how people acquire languages.
That’s been going on long enough – the teacher teaching only a small percentage of her students so that they can learn how to become mechanical editors of the language.
Good Lord have mercy – that’s not how it works. Let’s not do that anymore. And let’s not be such bozos as to think that we can teach grammar using CI.
