I took the comment you made (from backing away from the ledge) to me to heart. I gave my trouble class a new seating chart, reminded them of the rules then I assigned some jobs (clapper – we had done it before but it faded b/c all I had was an annoying cow bell–oh well, timer – to see how long we went without anyone talking in English which is the main problem in the class – it is so bad I made a competition between the classes and told them whoever got up to the most minutes without using English would have a free movie day at the end of the semester. We had to stop a couple of times for talking but the class got up to almost 5 minutes!! My “ring-leader” who is normally a trouble maker was raising his hand constantly trying to give me COMPLETE sentences in Spanish….a few others were doing the same. It was the best class I have ever had!! Thank you for the advice, aka kick in the butt, to enforce jGR.
This is why your repost from Jody on the use of L1 is so helpful. I see what you’re doing. Thanks.
