Emergent input opens up a whole new vista in language learning.  It allows the language to be what it should be according to the research: the vehicle for authentic communication in the classroom, and not the center of our conscious attention.

Making the shift to non-targeted, emergent input unlocks a myriad of exciting new conduits through which to deliver comprehensible input to our students.  In shifting our focus from the language to the messages, from the words to the ideas, and from the structures to the students, we feel almost as if a layer of dense fog has been lifted from our teaching, revealing the truth about comprehensible input – that it is much simpler than we had previously thought, much more natural and much more enjoyable.
