A story script from Robert:
Hi Ben,
Here is a story script I used in my German 3-4-AP class. I got the inspiration from Anne Matava’s “I Should Have Done it Myself” script. Some things to note:
– Danny and Emily are brother and sister (twins)
– Danny really does love baseball
– This goes along with the “Virtual Move” to Vienna unit; the Vienna Wanderers are a professional baseball team in Vienna
– During the creation of the story, there was a lot of good-natured banter going on in German
– The class has 38 people in it
– My TA, who has never had German joined in and got 3/5 on the end-of-class quiz
– This was simply a lot of fun to do (and much more entertaining than learning travel vocabulary lists)

Danny, Emily, Maddie, and Allie travelled to Vienna. Danny packed a little. Emily, Maddie, and Allie packed a lot. They packed too much and needed help.
Emily had too many socks and asked Danny to pack her socks in his suitcase. Emily said: “Danny, please pack my socks in your suitcase because I have too many socks.” Danny said: “Okay” and took Emily’s socks.Then they arrived in Vienna, and Danny opened his suitcase. Emily saw Danny’s baseball glove but no socks and asked: “Danny, did you pack my socks?” Danny said: “I forgot to pack them.” Emily said: “You forgot to pack my socks?! I should have done it myself!”
Maddie had too many hair brushes and asked Danny to pack her hair brush in his suitcase. Maddie said: “Danny, please pack my hair brush in your suitcase because I have too many hair brushes.” Danny said: “Okay” and tookMaddie’s hair brush.Then they arrived in Vienna, and Danny opened his suitcase. Maddie saw Danny’s baseball but no hairbrush and asked: “Danny, did you pack my hair brush?” Danny said: “I forgot to pack it.” Maddie said: “You forgot to pack my hair brush?! I should have done it myself!”
Allie had too many pants and asked Danny to pack her pants in his suitcase. Allie said: “Danny, please pack mypants in your suitcase because I have too many pants.” Danny said: “Okay” and took Allie’s pants.Then they arrived in Vienna, and Danny opened his suitcase. Allie saw Danny’s baseball bat but no pants and asked: “Danny, did you pack my pants?!” Danny said: “I forgot to pack them.” Allie said: “You forgot to pack my pants?! I should have done it myself!”
Emily, Maddie, and Allie looked at Danny and said: “You forgot to pack our things!” Danny said, “Bummer! I forgot to pack your things. You should have done it yourselves. But I didn’t forget to pack my things because I did it myself.” Then Danny went to the park and played baseball with the Vienna Wanderers.
