Involving More Artists

Jane Little just showed me a great idea from Annick Chen which many in the group may already do but had never crossed my mind in its simplicity, if you have a document camera.
Your artist(s) can just take a piece of paper (those with drawing abilities can all draw during the story if they want), fold it in half the long way and then into thirds to create six boxes. They then place the paper sideways and draw what they hear during the story through the six panels, numbering each one (1 through 3 across the top and 4 through 6 across the bottom).
Since I had not had a document reader until this year, I just had my artist draw the story on the back of that big rolling white board I like to use for asking stories, but this is such a great idea. This way, more artists get featured, and thus more kids have job ownership in the class. Very cool. Thank you, my colleagues at Lincoln High, Jane and Annick!
