Winter Survival Guide – 4

What will I change to protect myself through the coming winter in those classes where the plane is not yet flying happily through the CI skies because of certain kids in my class whom I haven’t been able to get rid of and who won’t change, continuing to resist me in the invisible world, polluting the CI skies that in certain other classes can be so cloudless and can have such beautiful hues of blue?

First, I will from time to time use some of the Bail Out Moves listed in that category. But I will also do something else, something new, something involving traditional grammar translation. What?

Yes something involving grammar. You have to read on in this series of articles to find out what.

But think of this in terms of airplanes. If we are flying a small Piper Cub and we have 35 passengers and 7 of them are going to try to rock the plane around in the air on our CI voyage that day, I don’t want to fly that plane – it’s too dangerous. If, on the other hand, the CI is working, if we have properly normed our classroom with the Classroom Rules and jGR and CWB and OWI and all that critical stuff back in the fall, so that we are flying a 737 up there and we are in complete control of the CI plane, then we don’t have to do any bailing out. But how many of us can say that?
