  1. I see it slightly differently. In stories, from the very beginning, my fourth graders start to express personal meaning by answering “yes” or “no” to personalized questions or responding to “either”/”or” questions of the same type . Not questions like “what is your name?” if you catch my tprs drift. Kids being able to answer questions from close to the very beginning is the KEY to it all in my opinion.

    Maybe Atlanta got close this time. (slight paradigm shift required, however)

And the tangiental thought is that Susie made it clear to me that circling and questioning and the stuff of TPRS discussion MUST evoke only yes or no or other ONE WORD answers in the beginning. If the answers are not one word answers then it is not circling. We make it within their reach, and we never shame them over something they cannot yet do. Thanks, Jody.
