  1. Chris Stolz has a great post over on his blog on how to teach boring stuff (Hope you don’t mind me posting a link to that here, Chris). Very practical pointers on integrating dry material into the year in a natural way! And a helpful reminder that we don’t teach different material than a someone with a grammar/thematic syllabus, we just cover it on a different timeline (Which could reassure someone who’s interested but hesitant to convert to CI). I just discovered the post and thought James’ creative idea above would be a fitting place to mention it.

    1. Great post Chris on the boring stuff! We can pepper our CI every week with the boring stuff. So much better remembered if taught a little every week and recycled over the entire year. Chris gives examples of how that can be done in a TPRS story and in the same way, you can do this stuff during a MT pretty easily (what is the character wearing, what room is he in, what time of day is it, etc.)

Eventually, I’ll post a video of one way to do daily reports, PQA-style, to get in that thematic vocabulary. The kids surprisingly like this PQA on boring vocabulary. If they get how to play the “cute answer” game, then you get to dress up Justin Beiber in a silly outfit (clothing), get kids with 7 bedrooms, no bathrooms, and with family members sleeping in microwaves (house), etc.
