The Simplicity Piece

I have to say that the simplicity thing is getting better and better. There are two areas I am working on, of course, as any teacher must:
1. in class stuff
2. out of class stuff
The out of class stuff is really easy and doesn’t trouble me. My team at ALHS meets every day and we are on everything before it happens. When something is due for administration, we do it together, the whole team. We knock it out. Simplicity due to teamwork. Done in the building during workin hours. Nice.
The in class stuff is even easier. I have put my blinders on to all options open to me in comprensible input teacher except the stuff that leads to the highest quality input. I have a list of everything I have done in CI instruction, like dictée, etc. and I know they are there, but I don’t let them confuse me. I keep my focus on the comprehensible input via this simple weekly format:
Monday – PQA target structures for the week’s story
Tuesdaay – story
Wednesday – start embedded reading of story
Thursday – finish embedded reading of story
Friday – song, maybe a ten minute freewrite
I should find a place for more FVR, and I will, but my teaching soul is just craving simplicity these days, so I can look at stuff that is really there on my way into work and not think about all the stuff I have to do once I get to school. Knowing my week is as simple as described above, I can cultivate that simplicity.
