Of course, on block 2 of the two block rotation for this new schedule, we use ROA to start class and right on through to where the Three Steps of TPRS sequence finishes. Reading Option A is such a strong friend in this work of reading a story.
And now I’ve added a new step to ROA which I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of until a class wanted to do it today – it’s something most of us certainly already do during a reading. We were through Step 6 of the ROA process when the kids asked if they could act out the story.
So we did! The same actors from the day before got up at the right time and acted the whole thing out. Since they just read it, and created the story just two days before, it was all fresh in their minds.
More reps. Plus the opportunity to really have fun at they “work on their lines”. Usually they end up laughing and then someone else tries it, and they laugh. The reps pile up. In one class today various kids combined to get probably 100 or more reps on “Hey you over there! Stop talking!”
I was fine with a big section of class on this speech output by them. They were having fun and so was I. Fun trumps everything.
This is really just a form of Reader’s Theatre, only applied to stories instead of novels.
