Regarding distribution of instructional minutes in Story Listening (SL), I asked in a 2016 phone call with Dr. Beniko Mason, the originator of Story Listening, if she thought that Story Listening and the Invisibles would make a could combination CI program, My question was if a ratio of 50% SL to 50% Invisibles would be a good plan. She responded that a good distribution of CI instructional minutes would be about 80% Invisibles and 20% SL.
This amazed me because Dr. Mason has worked extensively with Dr. Krashen for over thirty years, and I would have thought that what she developed herself as professor emerita at Shitennoji University Junior College in Osaka, Japan, would be her main focus.
Beniko’s ready acceptance of the Invisibles, which cannot be said about her acceptance of TPRS, was gratifying. (In 2016 both she and Dr. Krashen read “A Natural Approach to Stories” and had very positive reactions, including a comment from Dr. Krashen that the book was “important” and “clever”.
