As per Nathan Black, the Sound Effects Guru is the kid with a Smartphone and scrolls through the different sound effects available on that app. It is often hilarious to be in the middle of a sentence and be interrupted by a sound that perfectly describes what just happened in the previous sentence.
Often I ask for applause – all the time in fact, bc these kids don’t get a lot of applause in their lives – but then when the applause dies down, the app applause is sometimes still going. We just listen to it. It’s just fun.
My favorite is when I reject an answer, there is an app sound that says derisively, “Come on!”, like that was the stupidest answer ever. Of course, I alway make sure that they know that it is the answer and not the kid we are laughing at.
The kids really get that and by now it is a kind of badge of honor to have a suggestion rejected, and a great triumph to have one accepted. I always look with approval at the kid who suggested the accepted cute answer for the rest of the story.
There are so many apps, and the Sound Effects Guru is a special job indeed.
