Here is Skip Crosby’s bio. Skip is doing much for TPRS in New England and this blog site would not be the same without his presence on it:
My TPRS journey began 6 years ago after attending a Blaine Ray conference sponsored by Alice Yates in Kingfield, ME. The fact that I could read the story in German that Blaine had just asked clinched it for me. I was sold. I started using it that next Monday. I was at a teaching crossroads and I either had to find a more effective way to help students acquire the language or I had to find a new way to earn a living.
Since then I have attended dozens of trainings by the very best teachers; Ray, Gross, Fritz, Slavic, Gaab, Li, Clarcq, Hedstrom and others and have spent thousands of hours reading every word on TPRS that I could get my hands on. This blog has been my primary source. Watching Anne Matava skillfully deliver CI in German really solidified my ability of and skill with the method.
My current challenges are how to effectively teach the upper levels, how to carry groups of students from lower to upper levels in a seamless way and how to come to grips with the amount of energy it takes me to engage classes with the method.
My passion now is to offer training opportunities for teachers so that teachers new to the method can learn it and veteran teachers can meet the goals that they have for themselves with the method. I also have a vision for somehow organizing peer coaching among TPRS teachers here in Maine.
Personally I have been married for 19 years in November, have one eleven year old son named Gabe and live in the town known best for the water, Poland Springs. I am currently in my 21st year of teaching high school Spanish. Other passions include Personal Finance education, skiing, and being a New England Sports fan. Most of all, I enjoy anything that Gabe and I can do together like playing pass with the baseball, attending ball games at Fenway and watching him play ball and dance.
