So there is jen in NH and Jennifer in NJ just to be clear. This Report from the Field – really a celebration – is from jen in NH:
Hi!
I just had to share this! I don’t think I have ever had this sort of comment / enthusiasm about my class. Note that it is not from a current student but from a visitor. But still….
Franky enjoyed meeting students from other countries, and he loved the Spanish class. It’s very interesting, because before that he had not been interested in languages. He had a year of Italian tutoring at home from a visiting teacher, and he would complain about the lessons. It sure must be the sign of a good teacher to be able to spark that kind of interest and enthusiasm in just one class! He said that Spanish class was the best part of the day. Franky has been thinking it over and was considering applying to the school. He was very torn but just yesterday in our discussion he came to the decision to keep homeschooling also.
I’m sure it’s not possible to have him just take a class…Spanish? I just has to ask in case.
He visited my level 2 Spanish a couple weeks ago and because he was just wide open, he picked up a lot. We were doing a reading lesson that day and so were reading and circling. He started raising his hand to answer questions about halfway through the class. Of course I made a huge deal about it, high fives, etc. And the rest of the kids cheered as well. I kept asking “are you sure you have never had Spanish?” And he said no, just a little Italian, but I am just picking it up from the story and the questions. It was so awesome. I am bummed that he is not coming to school, but honestly I am kind of tempted to get in touch with his mom bc maybe there is a “market” of homeschoolers that could jump start my freelancing??? Hmmm….
Anyway. This just made my day, and it has barely started!
