Hey Ben,
Today for the first time I was able to write “no ingles” on the board, in a very non-authoritarian way, and students willingly stood up to the challenge, and even got onto each other for speaking out of turn in English. Also for the first time, I have students yelling at me in Spanish from across campus, and exchanging rejoinders with me when they pass me in the hall. I think this is what a community feels like! Yesterday at back to school night one of my students stood and carefully read through the one page story that goes with the MovieTalk we did. He even did the gestures and explained to his grandpa how we came up with them and what they mean. It was a very proud moment for me. This year is shaping up pretty nicely. I’m really looking forward to the coming months and to the workshop we get to have next week.
