  1. How horrible! You have to be careful, Ben! Maybe go for a walk instead of ride your bike, despite what Ben Lev says (lol). I hope you can relax and get your rest.

    1. I was lucky to get away with just the dislocation and no broken bones. It was definitely a wake up call. I was going fast and missed a turn as a groove in the concrete swallowed up my tire. It was a metaphor for getting going too fast in life, where we think everything is so important – as we all know, the work we do can do that to us – and we enjoy the adrenaline rush. It’s a lesson and I embrace it.

    1. I can’t imagine biking in India but at the American Embassy School there was a small group of teachers who would get up at 4:00 a.m. and drive out of Delhi and ride in the cleaner air on Sat.mornings. I can’t imagine that. Might hit a cow. I knew of another guy who rode from Ahmadnagar to Bombay which is a four hour drive. So Westerners do it. Not me.

  2. I just got an MRI on my thumb. 30 min. in that tube w the loud noises and unable to move a muscle while lying on my stomach and my arm extended above my head. I have run marathons that were far more pleasant. Thank you Julie.

  3. OH man! Was off line for a few days and this happened? So sorry to hear, and glad you are ok. And also glad that you take time to be outside. Keep that therapy up even if you can’t be on your bike. Hope your recovery is speedy!

  4. Jason I was riding 150 to 200 miles a week. I was typing online between 40 and 60 hours a week. I wasn’t spending time w my family. I was getting carried away by the potential in the Invisibles. I was thinking about them all the time. Now I can barely type w an elbow cast for 12 weeks and surgery this coming Friday. I can’t ride. I must sit and slow down and relax and cultivate a sense of relaxing. The Universe knows exactly what He is doing. He teaches perfectly.

    1. Don’t I know this feeling of carried away and boom! – sth happens to slow us down and reconsider that there are even more important things than being a language teacher – which of course is great!

I’m sure the powers of the Univese will help you.

    2. It sounds like a great chance to rest and let things percolate. 🙂 The Hat of Family is a nice one to put on when the Hat of Work is put aside for a bit.

    Ben,

I am sorry I haven’t been an active member of the PLC for a long time. I am just now seeing this news. I hope you are healing well. A student of mine wrecked on his bike two summers ago while on a field trip with the scouts. If it weren’t for his helmet, he’d be dead. He had to relearn EVERYTHING and I now have the pleasure of his presence in my class; after his being away from regular daytime school for 2 years.

You are blessed that your injuries were not worse. <3
