Report from the Field – Andrew Edwards

This isn’t really a report from the field, just something Andrew sent to me in an email today which I wanted to share with the group:

…going free form can feel a bit scary. Plus we have to deal with people looking at us like we are nuts all of the time if we just want to talk to our kids in the L2 and not worry if they all know how to say to skate, to rest, to ride a bike, to do exercise, to do homework, etc. by the test next week.

I sent a rant of an email to my department head yesterday about the crappy tests we have to give our kids (my message in that email was based on a recent comment on a thread on the PLC about how we should teach for June of senior year) and how it is an injustice to punish a kid for not having acquired something by the second month of Spanish 1 that they might kick ass on at the end of the year. No reply as of yet….
