  1. Quick Quizzes seriously seriously seriously work. Today was the first day for all my new first year students. We did a quick quiz at the end of every class. It is amazing that the kids actually enjoy taking them. They sort of prove to them at the end of every class that, “Yes, darling, you did learn something today in this class, even if you didn’t want to.”

    1. NOTHING MOTIVATES LIKE SUCCESS! This quizzes are the perfect tool to let the students feel successful!

I used to be a constant reminder to my students of how difficult learning a language was. Now the most frequent complaint to them is that it is tooo easy! If only I could have all those years back!

  2. Greetings all!

Regarding Quick Quizzes, I usually assign two students to the task of creating quick quiz questions during story telling. Then, having been alerted by an alarm set to sound five minutes before the end of that portion of the class, I have them clear their desks and take the quiz. The questions and answers are in T1. The questions I like best deal with the plot development of the story, but sometimes I am tempted to use T2 questions, like “how do you say ___ in T2?” I am wondering what kinds of questions you usually use? Also, do you often edit the questions created by student quiz makers, like I do, or do you honor their questions to the letter?

  3. I have the students write the questions in L1 (English in my case) [unless they want to write them in German], then I ask them in L2 (German). All of my questions are plot questions. I may stop while telling and ask “What did I say?” I edit the questions, but I do try to have them write more than 10 so I can find more good ones. I don’t remember who I got that from, but it was someone on the blog. I think it may have been Dave. I also ask them to try to stick around the target vocabulary in their questions.
