I have a question for the group regarding “departmental awards.” This is an expectation at my school. I found out about it last year right when they told me to submit the winners, which they assumed were based on GPA. I asked if I could award a group. I literally made this up right in the moment of the conversation. I said I would like to recognize the group that worked most cohesively and supported each other.
Last year I was able to do this without establishing criteria, because there was one group that clicked so well, and they truly supported and cared about each other.
How can I establish criteria for CI based awards? I would love to just give it to some “most improved” or other underdog type kid or a group, but I feel like I should have criteria. What do others do? I am really not a fan of continuing to pile awards/recognition on the same 3 kids who will win all the other dept. prizes.
Is this reverse descrimination!
