More on Planning

I’ve always been discomfited about how simple the research is and how complex we make our jobs. I mean, the research says basically that we only need to talk to our students in the TL and then do lots of reading after that. But WE seem to have decided otherwise – for some reason we seem to think that we have to painstakingly plan our instruction out. So weird!

And yet – just the opposite thing that we want to happen happens when we overplan. We stunt growth of proficiency, we stuff down interest, we blow away confidence, all the while sending ourselves the message on some level that we suck at CI. Great!

Enter the Star. The Star is the ultimate anti-planner. The less you plan with the Star, the stronger the Star is.
