Lene Is Lonely

[ed. note: stories from Anne are always reproduced here with her permission. This one is designed for upper levels]:

lonely
pat
that hurts

Lene is lonely.  She wants a pet.  She goes to the Humane Society and sees a cute little ferret.  “Awww!  Isn’t that cute!  May I pat it?” she asks the employee.  “Of course,” says the employee.  Lene pats the ferret, and it bites her hand off.  “OW!  That hurts!” she says.

But she’s lonely, and she wants a pet.  She sees a cute little water buffalo.  “Aww!  Isn’t that cute?  May I pat it?”  she asks the employee.  “Of course,” says the employee.  She pats it, and it explodes.  A horn gets stuck in her eye.  “OW! That hurts!” she says.
She’s still lonely, and she wants a pet.  She sees a cute little tarantula.  “Aww!  Isn’t that cute?  May I eat it?” she asks the employee.  “Of course,” says the employee.  Lene eats the tarantula.  She is not lonely any more, because now she always has a friend in her stomach.  (It doesn’t come out the other end.  It holds on tight to her intestines.)

  1. haha, I haven’t finished reading the story yet and I’m laughing out loud at the idea of a buffalo exploding. I don’t find exploding animals particularly comic, but that idea was totally unexpected to me, y por eso me río!
