Another Latinist (I love using the word Latinist, can you tell?) has joined our group. The Latin presence is strong in our PLC.
Ben,
By way of introduction… My name is Kevin Clemens. I’m a high school Latin teacher in the north suburbs of Chicago, about to embark upon my third year teaching. I was directed to your work (and in particular the online learning community) by Bob Patrick, whose work I’ve recently found, and whose thoughts about teaching Latin very much resonate with my own ideas.
Since first beginning Latin in college, I’ve always wanted more from it besides decoding it word-by word into English. Once I began teaching, this became an even greater desire of mine– to show students that Latin can be learned (and experienced) as a communicative language and not just English-in-code I’ve recently come across TPRS methods this summer, and hope to incorporate more of these techniques into my class as I move forward. I very much look forward to benefiting from this online community as I seek to be the type of teacher who really engages each of my students personally in the classroom.
Kevin
