I’m speechless. ET hit the nail on the head and gave his perspective to the kids. I can’t wait for your book Ben. It is sure to inspire many. Thank you for being so giving.
If that book even happens. But you already know 80% of it from reading here.
WOW! YES!
I just brought up this topic in “public” for the first time at our faculty meeting during an inservice yesterday. One of my goals for myself this year is to speak up at meetings when I see this type of disrespect happening among adults. Because we can only model and practice, right? No point in talking about “culture and climate” and “competencies” and “curriculum and allllllllll that stuff when we are not modeling listening while someone else is talking!
The context of my comment: we were in a faculty-only discussion where 2 teachers were facilitating our new PLCs (!) that we will be forming this year. The topic was competency-based grading, what are competencies, etc. It was actually a really good discussion since we immediately dug into this WAY more than the surface stuff we do in our regular meetings.
Anyway, as people commented about not being able to truly assess students based on competency I spoke up about interpersonal skills! I think I will pass along this link 🙂
Amen to this:
…no point in talking about “culture and climate” and “competencies” and “curriculum and all that stuff when we are not modeling listening while someone else is talking!….

This link should be everywhere. I really meant it when I said that in my opinion it is the most important post ever put on this blog in the ten years of its existence as well as the first blog that we closed down, the public one that was on the internet before 2007 (which I will put in its entirety with the hard links above as soon as I get a chance).
Man are you right. I wish I could say things like he does.
I just watched twice and sent it to the entire staff.
I’m wondering if I’ll get some negative stuff from those that don’t think it applies to them. “How dare she…”
I jut cried from the internet for the second time today. The first time was me making my own self cry. I literally cried reading my own blog post. And again when Dr Thomas said, “The few people that you do have that care, you can’t treat them like garbage.”
