Clipboards

On story days, at the end of class, I often used to lose track of  the important work just done by the story writer and the quick quiz writer – they would end up mixed in wth other papers, etc. Now, I have a system that is simple and streamlined to make sure I have easy access to the quiz and the story from the class that day. I also know where the actual quizzes are (those little pink scantron sheets that are so easy to grade). Everything goes on three clipboards.

I have one clipboard for my stories from the story writers in each class, and another one for the quizzes from each class. The stories are written by the story writer on paper of one color, and the quizzes on another. The paper clipped tests are stuck on the third clipboard so that all the quiz and story notes written by the kids who do those two jobs and the quizzes themselves are clipped neatly on three clipboards at the end of the day.

Then all I have to do is make the scantron key from the quiz writer (who is required to ask only yes or no questions and to write next to the question – written in English – what the answer is, yes or no). I can have the key done for a class in about 30 seconds.

Now that I only have three classes per day, I can then write a separate story for each class, personalized to the details of that class. But, since I am finally learning how to stay close enough to the story script, I think I even could write a story personalized for each class even if I had five classes. That’s a big topic, however.

Organized in the above way, the clipboards saves time and energy.
