I have moved further and further away from any kind of assessment. This is based on my strong belief that we can’t really measure what a kid takes out of a CI classroom. In my view, it is like trying to measure the root system of a tree after we water it at frequent intervals.

The ten finger hand comprehension checks are not accurate, because many of the kids lie. We use them, of course, when being observed to get the box checked. The observer doesn’t know that the kids are lying and is eager to check the box. As a variation, do a check as the kids exit the room
