Call for Syllabi

Diane needs a syllabus for the fall, level one preferred. You have them. Give them to her through this site. You will thereby “do her a solid”. Have you ever thought about that odd expression? It means that you give her something concrete to work with. There are also all sorts of ideas tucked in the pages of this PLC as well, but they are scrolled out over the years and hard to locate. I think there are sample syllabi in the Primers but not sure. Also there are some ideas on this topic in some of my recent books. Let’s make it easy on ourselves on this topic of syllabus writing – just send to me at benslavic at yahoo.com your level 1 syllabus for next year. There are some incredible teachers in this group so it should be easy to collect what Diane needs here and share that information for all to use. It doesn’t have to be perfect. All Diane wants are some ideas. We’ll post them here anonymously and use the posts as a data base under a new “Syllabi Examples” category. I’ll even take TPRS syllabi, although Diane is doing the new Invisibles/One Word Image NTCI program based on the Star Sequence, about which one person – a PhD in language education and a member of our group, Robin – has said:

“Honestly, what you’ve written is about 5 times more advanced than what I had in my mind of what TPRS could be at its best!!”

Here is Diane’s request:

Ben,

I was wondering if you would share how you would change or update your syllabus today. I noticed some of your ideas on TPRS etc. have evolved. [ed. note: they’ve more than evolved – they’ve moved into a new universe.]

I noticed that you have shortened your classroom rules from the The Big CI Book. [ed. note: I don’t know why Teacher’s Discovery is pushing the Big CI Book so hard. It’s five years old!]

Since my parents need, as well as my students, a detailed explanation of what each classroom rule “looks like” so I will need to explain/model precisely, how their students need to act for each rule.

Is there anyone out there who has written his/her syllabus for either French 1 or Spanish 1 for the upcoming 2019/20 that you would be willing to share so that I would have a model from which to create mine? It would be very much appreciated.
