I know that we’ve decided to make classroom management the focus here this summer, and a good focus it is. To that end, I have so far published here nine introductory articles, over the past few weeks. Each article represents the progressive, day-by-day development of what will become an eventual actual book on classroom management.
I can now see that this is going to take a long time, well into the coming academic year if not all the way into spring or even summer. I do apologize for that, but that’s about how long it takes to write a book. It would be nice to be able to just get everything about CM (our new acronym for classroom management) over with this summer and be done with it, but there is just too much to say, and too much change to make internally.
And we all know that classroom management is only partly external. So much of it has to do with our own inner relationship with ourselves when we are teaching, and that’s the part I really want to get into after we finish talking about all the externals – all the stuff we already have developed and will review here in the next few months, the rules and such.
This CM book – called Managing the CI Classroom – is one I’ve been waiting impatiently for a long time – over ten years – to write. It is going to be an incredible layered onion of a book, and I want to be thorough. Too much is at stake, esp. in a time in our country now when we need more teachers to show up as adults for kids than we currently seem to have available.
Soon, we’ll soon move into a complete review of everything that we’ve decided is important about CM here on the PLC over at least the past 15 years. Then we’ll get to the new stuff, the part that will give us, hopefully, a completely new mindset about all aspects of how we manage our classrooms.
Please note that I will intersperse here all the CM posts with random other posts. I would guess that about half of all future posts here will be on classroom management as the book gets written, and the rest will be on various other topics, like we’ve done now for such a long time.
