Hafiz 3

Here is another poem written by the Persian master Hafiz. The translation from the Persian is by Dan Ladinsky:

DROPPING KEYS

The small man builds cages for everyone he knows, while the sage, who has to duck his head when the moon is low, keeps dropping keys all night long for the beautiful rowdy prisoners.

When we treat students with love and respect, we recognize them as human beings who yearn for freedom in how they learn. Good comprehensible input instruction is no more than dropping keys for our students.

It’s because we can’t force language instruction. All we can do is provide the input. That’s what the research says. Just providing the input allows sets the deeper mind free to just absorb. No cages for our students anymore. No more cages. No more cages.
