As we get closer to the TN conference, I wanted to announce to those not yet aware that Carol has given us our own session (Wed. – 3:30-4:30) to discuss, among PLC members who want to be there, the entire recent thread on authentic assessment. I know that some of us really want to get to the core of this issue. My own questions, those that I am currently still chewing on from the spring, are questions like:
- Can we assess w/o points?
- Can we assess so that it reflects our instruction?
- Can we assess so that the kids don’t feel as if they are being judged, but rather get to show off what they know?
- Can we assess to reflect Claire’s beautiful vision of heart and child-centered assessment that puts noticing what the child can do at the center of how we assess?
I really want to know if it is possible to assess our CI trained kids in an authentic way. I don’t consider what we have now, with the exception of jGR/ISR, to be anywhere near what is best for kids. So if you share such ideas, please join us next month at this session.
