That’s totally what I want my students to say too, jen. That they don’t feel any pressure in my class. When I’m able to deliver a ton of CI for the kids, keep them engaged, and they walk away feeling like there wasn’t any pressure placed on them, I will feel like a master, like you should feel, jen!
This PLC would be very different without you. I do hope you find a way to continue to do what you’re so good at next year. It sounds cheesy to say, but it’s true: our country needs you!
Congratulations!
And Ben, what the heck, why not continue doing a Teacher of the Month? I think one reason, at least, is to give something for those selected to put on their resume, not to mention a distinction to brag about to believers and non-believers alike.
I don’t even know why I let it lapse Sean. I think it was the sheer volume of information we’ve been processing. Help me to remember to start again. I will go write a post right now.
Congratulations, Jen! Here’s what I wrote to you in an email early this morning before I even read that you were TOTY. Then when I saw this I thought, why not post it here too, to celebrate and share my appreciation of you with everyone.
I have huge appreciation and respect for your whole being and spirit, of generosity, openness, love, fighting for what is right and good, and your complete all around awesomeness!
And even if the state doesn’t get it, the kids do. They know, and that’s what matters.
You put it so well Ruth. In jen we have a rare teacher, one who over the years has always made it her top priority to fight on behalf of what is best for kids and their pathway through life. Always fighting for the kids and for opening of heart in teaching. Such a strong person, and so appreciated over the past decade that we have spent working together, getting real about the sharp daily edges of this work.
I was so inspired by jen’s resilience. Still here; still going TPRS strong. It’s kind of a testiment to the solid foundation in SLA theory supporting TPRS. Jen has her feet planted firmly in methods “honoring what (kids) can do!” It’s both sad and inspiring that administration tried and failed to take the awesome out of jen.
So touched and humbled. I’m really no different than any of you. And Sean, I am not even close to that point of mastery you describe “delivering tons of CI!” Yeah, that is in my magic unicorn world. But we are lucky bc we get to start over each day and try again!
Eternally grateful for this group. I found you all on the day I planned to quit teaching. This leads me to believe that in my current state of chaos and uncertainty there is something great around the corner or right under my nose that I am not yet aware of! Wish I were going to one of the conferences so I could see y’all in person. I will make that happen in the coming year!
I remember when we first met at U of Southern Maine, Lewiston campus almost three years ago. It was at one of Skip’s back-to-school get-together PD events. You sat down beside me (at the only available seat. We exchanged names. Could it be true? I asked whether you were the Jen of jGR. You said that you only played a small part; it was mostly the work of Ben and Robert (and possibly one or two others). I still felt the excitement of meeting someone from this blog, and one of the blog celebrities at that. Your humility, your tenacity, your wondering & reflective nature have enriched enriched our lives on the blog and the many workshops, training sessions, and meals in Lewiston-Auburn. Thanks for being you.
Congratulations and well-deserved, Jen.
