I just found out something interesting.. The corporate offices of the Coalition of Essential Schools are in Portland, ME. That’s right where Annemarie teaches. If you go to their website, you will see that their site is actually offered in Spanish as well.
Having taught in a Coalition school, my thinking is that CES needs to do more than offer their site in Spanish, They need to get a conversation going on about how the original ideas of CES founder Ted Sizer, his famous “10 Common Principles”, fail – as in go splat – when addressing foreign language instruction in Coalition schools in the U.S.
