For my masters project, I gave my Spanish 1 class the Natl. Spanish Exam. I’m comparing my output, grammar based last year to my CI class this year. Last year I gave the test in MAY, this year I gave it last week, TWO months before the previous group. The class average this year is 25 points more than last year and I have 10 kids scoring above the national average compared to 5 last year. PLUS, I had a heritage speaker last year who rocked the exam and drove their class average up while this year I have a very low performing kid on an IEP whose incredibly low score drove the average way down. My masters thesis is going to be a great piece of research to add to the growing body of CI research.
