Walls

Somebody asked me what I have up on my walls. Not much. I once had many posters up and slowly figured out that they don’t work. The extreme nut on too many posters was a teacher at East High who had just about every single inch of his wall covered with verb conjugations of all kinds. Thousands and thousands of words. Looked impressive I guess. Anyway, here’s what I have:

These conjunctions in one poster:

  • first
  • next
  • after
  • then
  • so
  • then
  • later
  •  now
  • in the morning
  • in the afternoon
  •  in the evening
  • at that point
  • suddenly
  • until
  •  and
  • also
  • again
  • still
  • therefore

Those seem to suffice for my second year classes when they write. The main thing is that, without those conjunctions, the kids can’t write a story, they can only write sentences, so they are a very important part of my walls.

Also, I use prepositions. These are the ones that I teach using hand signals during stories:

  • on
  • under
  • in
  • in front of   behind
  • next  to
  • far
  • close
  • far   very close
  •  in back of
  • across from
  •  above
  • under
  • against
  • with
  • together

The prepositions poster helps a little but in’t that important because the kids kind of know them from stories.

So that is  two  posters. I also have the “Little Words” poster up – it helps them to write. There is also the Word Wall and the Question Words. All three of those are on the posters page of this site: https://benslavic.com/tprs-posters.html

That’s all I use. Of course, if I do the Wall Zoo in the fall, that would be another one.
