This is our Charlotte in Canada, not Germany. It’s a wonderful report from the field:
Hi Ben –
Yesterday I had a longer phone call from a mom who wanted to know what I had “done” to her daughter. That would normally send my heart racing a bit, but she quickly continued to tell me that her daughter had been very opposed to taking German in Grade 10 after her Grade 9 experience with my grammar oriented colleague. The daughter came into my class for 10 minutes, while waiting to see our guidance counselor to drop my class, and decided right then and there that she could handle taking German after all. Not only did she change her mind, but decided to participate in my German exchange program for three months next year. She had been posting links to some of the songs I use on her facebook page and her family is just astounded and delighted at this change of heart. My Grade 10 class is off to a very good start for this second semester and I am having as much fun as my students. Thanks to Susan Gross for introducing me to TPRS and to you Ben for this professional learning community that helps me along!
