Reading Celebration

A student said some really wonderful words in class today. After reading Laurie’s Version 3 of the He Talks Too Much reading with absolutely no difficulties, as if she had been reading French all her life, she said: “Wait a minute! How did I do that? That was so easy it was weird!”
I explained to her that she able to do that because she had come to class and she listened to the words in the story for two full class periods and that she was accessing a different part of her brain, one found in the “sound” part of her brain, and that is why she could read it. I told her that if she had not heard all of that French and read some yesterday, she couldn’t have done it, no matter how many grammar rules she may have memorized.
