Yesterday one of my classes got squirrely with the English interruptions. My reaction was to feed that fire with my own English interruptions of their English interruptions. In trying to quell the fire, I fed it. Bonehead move. I’ve got to work on that. Better to deal with this most difficult situation, maybe the most difficult of all the situations we face in CI classes, by giving the offender eye contact and a chat after class, or a phone call to parents if warranted, all the while staying in L2, than by trying to try to continue on with the comprehensible input while at the same time trying to stamp out their English with my own. Tough stuff. I’ll get better at it.
