Inside the Black Box

Kate’s post talks about the key role of formative assessment. Here is something from Michele to back that up:
Ben,
Kristy Placido posted an article on her page under the “Assessment” heading. Its writers demonstrate a real understanding of teachers, students and schools. There are many great quotes that I’m putting on my blog, but you’ll want to read the whole thing. It resonates with our practices in TPRS, and may give us some ideas for how to set up rubrics.
If I weren’t a TPRS teacher reading this, I think I would be in despair, because I wouldn’t have the first idea of how to give feedback or how to create a connection with kids. As it is, I feel I have at least a toehold and can benefit from the article. I’m sending this to my principal as well, though I have little hope he’ll digest it.

Look for the articles under “Assessment,” and find “Inside the Black Box.” It supports what we’d been discussing.
