Whack-a-Mole

It’s not as if we are going to get all the verbs ‘acquired’ in the first month verb frenzy time. My kids still now in April don’t always get the difference between goes and wants in French and we must have many thousands of reps in so far on those two cousins in sound (va/veut).

So if we feel that they are weak on a verb during a story, take a break and hammer it. Just say it in various spontaneous contexts (better if you involve the kids when doing that with personalized questions). Play whack-a-mole with it. Take out a pitch counter and have somebody count the reps if you want. Stop at 50 or something.

Then return to the story. It is a myth that we can teach 7 verbs or however many. Just assume they will need a few years to hammer in all the way, given the time we have, and throw this kind of short hiatus thing into a story if you feel they need it.
