Just to be sure, the hammering away is make the story comprehensible, and not as a means to get the verb acquired, yes?
I think this was what I was trying to get at on moreTPRS. Some people are hammering away day-in-and-day-out for the sake of acquiring specific verbs, and lose sight of the story and its messages. I don’t think that’s healthy.
No Lance personally I just hammer to hammer the verb. I don’t try to connect it to the story, which can wait. But that’s just me. It’s amazing how much kids need reps on some verbs.
I used to do the rep thing. I phased it out but why not bring it back? It can get a student involved again and I can gain skill in delivering messages with the verb.
