I am always pushing the case against using CI to teach lists of words, a la TPRS. However, right about now kids can get really rude and we may not have enough bad grades on them to keep them humble. Need some bad grades to keep them humble? Do something. Give more quizzes. Grade them every day w jGR. What is the point here? It is that we can sometimes be “too nice” w CI at the beginning of the year, and some kids w even slightly narcissistic traits, upon seeing in the grade book that their grade is “ok” so they start acting out in class on us. If we don’t have the courage to go after them honestly w an honest use of jGR, then we might want to consider doing something like this outside of class. An aggressive grade book is one of the best ways to put down insurrections (besides using Category A to start the year):
