Thought for the Day

Each of us must become our own best teacher, the one that now lies still dormant inside of us, the one waiting to be brought to the real teaching life, to the smiling life, to the happy kids life, with comprehensible input.

Nobody else can become what each of us is becoming in this process of becoming really effective teachers. There is no one right way to do this work, and there are as many ways to teach using CI as there are language teachers.

Therefore, there are no experts. There’s just us, trying and finding out what works best for us, sharing ideas here and there, taking some of them and rejecting others. We have the Star Sequence template, yes, so we’re way ahead of the game, but how we use it is up to us indivdually.

It’s the opposite of the textbook, isn’t it? The textbook strangles creativity, covering us with boredom, pouring glue-like sadness on our days, with all the teachers instructing in the same way, so they can test.

We’re becoming relaxed teachers, happy to be in our buildings, not faking it, not hiding how terrifying it is to try something new, because we really feel that we can do it, and that is because we can, and we will.
