The Grammar Rabbit Hole – 3

Going down the grammar rabbit hole not only automatically divides the class down the good memorizers and the bad memorizers, but there is a lot of social strata discussion that needs to take place on this as well.

Moreover, besides splitting classes, when the grammar teacher beckons everyone in the class to go down the hole, she can be said to various degrees to proceed to drive the class crazy with boredom and worse, the frustration in students that they CAN’T UNDERSTAND.

Who likes to take a class that they are not suited for in which the message is “You’re not as capable in this class as these other kids.” Have you ever felt that way in school?

Is it not clear, then, what the grand solution to the problem of the equity/inclusion piece in the language classroom is simply to TEACH A GOOD CLASS THAT ALIGNS WITH THE RESEARCH AND INVOLVES EVERYBODY.

This point is a subtle cornerstone for the book I am currently writing on equity and inclusion in the language classroom.
