In case you haven’t noticed, we are in a new time.
We can’t teach grammar anymore. It’s just ridiculous that we’ve gotten away with it for this long.
If you don’t feel the urgent need in your students to belong to something in their school buildings, and if choose not to work with a sense of urgency to that goal, then what are you doing?
Stop perpetuating the Big Language Lies! What are they? Obviously grammar instruction, but also the ineffective watered-down form of language education that CI has become.
Figure out a way to make all of your students belong in your classroom, not just the few! Figure out a way to really tap into and use CI in the way Krashen and Mason and BVP and the others know is possible in your language classroom!
Stop being cruel! The old way of teaching a language has always been a form of emotional abuse.
Stop. Change.
Bring in D.E. I. B. – Diversity, Equity. Inclusion. Belonging.
Be a DEIB! Don’t be a DWEEB.
