Teacher of the Month – September 2013 – Carol Hill

Carol Hill is chill and is in New Jersey. Carol and I are cut from the same mold and she has supported me in many moments when I was unsure of myself. She conveys to others in our group the message that we can do it and she usually finds some article in the research or online somewhere that supports what we are doing.

To say that Carol is well read and up to date on the current world language scene would be an understatement – she is up to today current. She is like our most recent Teacher of the Month, Mary Beth, in that way. For years Carol has been going quietly about her business of getting better at comprehension based instruction. Those who have been in this group since it started in 2007 know about Carol’s calming presence and capacity to bring hope to the others who read these pages.

When I think of Carol I think of the concept put forth by Kurt Vonnegut of the karass which is a group of people linked in a significant manner connected to the world. The image Vonnegut gave was that of a group of logs that clump up as they go down a river. I am happy to be in the clump Carol is in. Jody is in that clump.

So it’s a little late in the month, and we have been roaringly busy, but I finally got around to roaring about this month’s Teacher of the Month, our own Carol Hill/chill, whom we are all so proud of. Those who have met Carol at conferences or have simply been reading here over the years know what I mean. She is a gem. That’s the only way to say it.
