Awesome. Thanks, Ben!
I remind myself that on days when I (or the students) suck at TPRS, or when I (or the students) suck at classroom management, my kids are still getting so much more CI than they would in a traditionally taught class.
My point is trivial, keep in mind that my students are true 101 beginners. I would suggest “Johnwants to buy a Toyota.” The only variable at first, when teaching little kids, should be the target
structure. The word “car” becomes an extra variable/sound that throws little kids off. Just thinking out loud about what my bear cubs can handle…
True also for beginners in a very non-cognate language. The first week of school with Chinese 1 I was aiming at introducing only 2 verbs and a lot of proper nouns, and introducing some pronouns along the way as they seemed good with those 2 verbs. (Verbs: is and likes.) I counted the new sounds: 5 or 6 syllables that first week.
