  1. Story listening has allowed me to get in a “zone” with my students that I have never been able to do when I was asking questions. Even my most talkative class falls under the spell of the few stories I’ve done so far. It’s not that I draw well, so I know it’s not that! However, here are some of the students’ comments on stories from their mid-term reflections: (The prompt was: Write down one activity we do in French class that you feel helps you learn the most French. Why?)
“The mini stories really help me because you always stop to make sure we are with you.”
“I think our stories help me the most because they’re generally entertaining and put different sentences together.”
“Stories. I can understand with pictures.”
“Listening to you tell stories and your super cute drawings.”
“Stories—sometimes I get bored, but I learn a lot from them.”
“Story listening or reading and 10-minute deal because at this time I focus only on French and we don’t speak English” (from an Italian exchange student)
“Story listening. Because when it’s said and drawn I understand better.”
    “When we do storytime.”
Students also expressed that other activities help too…listen and draw, movie talk, whiteboard writing practice, quizlet…just shows me how important it is to vary CI strategies. Thank you to Tina for your videos of story listening.
