I love this post and the fact that is helps bring us all back to the reality of what we are doing. So often we beat ourselves up or focus on the troubled kids or those that aren’t doing as well as we’d hoped, but if we just focus on the positive it truly does help both us and the students!
When I was young and unafraid I thought it was all about gains and I was sad and unhappy, one of the teachers Polly describes in her other comment. I used to look askance at those few who were preaching about all that positive energy stuff.
Now I see it differently. I see it so differently. I faked the positive energy for about twenty years, and now I’m not faking it anymore. I’m truly happy in my classroom. Wow, I never believed I’d ever say that!
