Susan Olezene just emailed me back:
“David,
Hello. In the reorganization of AIO and the Teaching and Learning Department specifically all of the curriculum coordinator positions were eliminated and a new position of Curriculum Specialist was created. Diana Noonan is eligible to apply for this position. I personally encouraged her to apply.
Thank you for writing on her behalf.
Susan Olezene”
Wow! She did indeed encourage me to apply. She has received your emails …. Thank you! I will definitely apply but if I am offered this position, I will have to give up my retirement benefit which I earned after 30 years of teaching. Hmmm… When those in the military apply for jobs in the private sector, do they need to give up their retirement.?
Just saying…
Diana
Oops. I sent e-mails before I saw this post.
It’s fine Robert and those who have already sent things into the DPS brass. Diane met with the new supervisor that messed up around lunchtime. Hopefully something positive came out of it before it got to the big boys and girls. But my feeling is that the supes need to know if they have sub supes who are messing up, losing people like DN. I will call Diana this evening and report back.
Your letters are incredible, the ones I am getting. I think we should have a category for these emails and publish them here. So if you write one (and send it later after we finish holding our horses) send it to me at benslavic@yahoo.com.
In the trenches but trying to be PC in order to forge real change… That is my mantra.
Diana
…n the trenches but trying to be PC in order to forge real change…
Could you expand on that Diana?
Also, I understand that the school district has its hands tied by a very strict rule with our state retirement system. But there must be some loophole that allows you to stay in. What kept you in for the past eleven years after retiring in 2004?
My point here is that PERA (state retirement system) or DPS or SOMEONE has to realize the injustice here and fix it. That’s where our email writing blast idea came in. I feel as if someone needs to be BOMBARDED with emails to get this thing changed. I LOVE the idea of someone getting INUNDATED with letters on your behalf.
If all fails, one thing I suggest – and I know how you are a Denverite, but would you consider applying for some job somewhere else in the country? This is again where this community could help. The PERA rules only apply to your working in Colorado.
It’s a big confusion. Let’s talk later today. But I write this here just to keep others who know and value you in the loop of this very dramatic situation. Think of what Sabrina said the other night – if you’re not here she would have no reason to be here except the bonds she has made at TJHS. I mean, it would shake up this district and a lot of lives.
It seems to me that there would be some other rules and regulations and laws that would make what they are doing to Diana invalid. Aren’t schools mandated to give certain amount of notice when they RIF employees?
In our district they worked around this by having the person work less than full time… or as a private consultant
Ok, but why should Diane have to give up her retirement? That’s ludicrous! They clearly don’t want the best person for the job… They want to save money, I guess…? This is really sad.
